Our Team
Clinpsych Consulting is run by two clinical psychologists, Dr Jennifer Finlay and Dr Alexandra Nielsen.
Dr Jennifer Finlay
Having worked diagnostically and therapeutically in both community and inpatient NHS settings, and across a variety of other mental health services, I have a wealth of experience working with people across the lifespan.
In conjunction with my private work, I currently work in a child development centre in the NHS. In this role, my time is split between the neurodevelopmental service and a broad-based psychological consultancy role. In the neurodevelopmental service, my specific focus is on autism diagnostic assessments and offering pre-assessment and post-diagnostic workshops, groups and support to families. In my consultancy role, I offer individual therapy to children experiencing a variety of difficulties including mental health difficulties such as anxiety, depression, OCD, and phobias; issues relating to neurodivergence, such as emotional dysregulation and demand avoidant behaviour; as well as those with developmental delays, cerebral palsy and other genetic disorders.
Privately, when working therapeutically with children and adults, offering consultations to parents, or wider family therapy, I work relationally in an authentic and flexible way, using an integrative, solution-focused approach, where I draw on the best evidence-based models to fit the specific needs of those I see. These models may include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP), Narrative Exposure Therapy, and Trauma-Focused CBT. I have additional expertise in life transitions and loss, particularly the impact on an individual’s identity, and in working with those who have experienced trauma.
I have an interest in working with neurodivergence across the lifespan. This includes the assessment and diagnosis of neurodevelopmental conditions including autism and ADHD, as well as pre-assessment, post-diagnosis and no-diagnosis support for children, parents, families and adult individuals.
I am fully registered with the Health Care Professional Council as a Registered Clinical Psychologist:PYL040972

I have worked with children and young people presenting with a range of difficulties including cognitive difficulties, issues pertaining to neurodiversity, functional neurological disorders, and general mental health difficulties such as anxiety and depression.
I have also worked in specialised service for children and young people who are fostered or adopted providing attachment focused therapy. Across my NHS work I have broad experience of providing therapeutic parenting workshops and groups.
I work in a flexible and creative way, employing a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy(NT), Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP). As someone who is drawn to creative pursuits I like to incorporate various artistic interests and techniques in my therapy work.
In addition to my independent work, I have also worked within the NHS in London, focusing on the transition between child and adolescent service (CAMHS) and adult mental health services. My main focus involved providing therapeutic interventions for people who identify as neurodivergent and partnership work with other organisations to increase access for young people in the community. I also provide clinical consultation to other services supporting young neurodivergent individuals.
At ClinPsychConsulting I offer assessment and diagnosis of neurodevelopmental conditions including autism and ADHD, as well as pre-assessment, post-diagnosis and no-diagnosis support for children, families and adult individuals.
